COACHING WITH NATURE: Co-creating change with the natural world

We have a vision for a future coaching profession that invites nature as co-coach, and in this way contributes to a regenerative and sustainable way to live on this planet “which is ours, but not ours alone” (in the words of Janine Benyus, Biologist and Biomimicry Pioneer).

In this session, we will offer participants frameworks and approaches to coaching in partnership with nature that we have independently developed in our work as coaches. This session will provide participants with evidence-based practices, frameworks and principles that can be used to:

• explain to clients why they should start doing sessions outdoors, in connection with nature, especially for leaders, policy-makers and change-makers in the field of sustainable development and social change
• empower coaching presence and listening ability
• enhance thinking out of the box and creativity during a coaching session
• develop systemic thinking in support of the coachee’s facing her/his challenges
• unfold the coachee’s potential

An immersion in nature in which to live the regenerating experience of Forest Bathing (Forest Bathing, Shinrin-Yoku), practising meditative walking, mindfulness with nature, arborea practice (an original practice of movement in connection with trees) and other creative and musical practices, in connection with nature.

The Nature Coaching Academy is a training school for professional coaches, unique in the international scenario, because we combine coaching with body work (embodiment) and deep connection with nature (contemplative practices).

The workshop at the end of April will be co-created by Diana Tedoldi with @Monica Gagliano, a scientist who studies plant intelligence and the way plants communicate with each other and with us.

Other co-creators will be Claudia Antonelli, Maia Cornacchia and Nicola Castelli.

On 30 April Monica will also lead the Cocoa Ceremony, a particularly deep and transformative meditation experience to open up a new dimension in our relationship with ourselves and the plant world.

Five days of deep connection with nature of Ischia, a volcanic island part of the archipelago of the Phlegrean Islands, in the Gulf of Naples.

The workshop will allow you to experience personally the power of the Waters (thermal and marine) and the Volcano, reconnecting with the deep sources of your creativity and generative capacity.
It is indeed at the intersection of deep sea waters and volcanoes that life on Earth was born, some 3.8 billion years ago, at the mouth of some submarine volcanoes.

Yesterday we’ve been hosting a free online workshop during the International Coaching Week, organised by the International Coaching Federation every year to celebrate coaching and its power.

This year’s session has been dedicated to coaching in connection with a tree.

I had almost 250 participants who registered, and more than 100 who joined me LIVE during the meeting.

In this workshop, we have:

• learned about the impact of nature connection on a coaching session’s outcome
• learned what is somatic and ecosomatic intelligence
• experienced first-hand some of my practices for somatic and ecosomatic activation
• experienced self-discovery and self-coaching in synergy with a tree.

Participants were asked to join the webinar preferably from an outdoor space they love: a garden, a grove, a peaceful terrace, any place with trees. But many of them have connected with a tree through their mind’s eye because they could not be outdoors during the webinar.

After the introduction about the benefits of nature connection, mindfulness and embodied practices in a coaching session, we moved into the practice of somatic and ecosomatic connection.

Participants have received a free audio guide to repeat one of the practices we did together, guided by my voice.

Love nature, be nature.

Dopo i 20 anni ho iniziato a praticare consapevolmente zen e ascolto profondo in connessione con alberi e boschi un po’ in tutta Italia, dando forma a quella che chiamavo informalmente “Pratica Arborea” (e che poi ho chiamato “Yoga degli Alberi”): da oltre 20 anni unisco respiro, movimento consapevole, e mindfulness in ascolto degli alberi, in ogni stagione dell’anno, con ogni condizione meteo, per almeno 30-45’ almeno 3-4 volte ogni settimana.

Fino ad oggi, questa è la pratica alla base del mio benessere, della solarità, dell’energia e dell’instancabilità che tanti mi riconoscono: per me è l’esperienza che fonda la mia stessa identità come Diana.

Spesso scherzando dico che è grazie al mio melo se ho trovato marito (!), perché per me la connessione con gli alberi è una pratica esistenziale, che allena il mio contatto con me stessa, nella relazione con un altro essere vivente, nell’equilibrio che ogni rapporto rispettoso richiede, in costante ascolto della dinamica che si muove dentro di me, e fra di noi.

Come con un albero, così con le persone.

LA MIA MISSIONE

Dopo oltre 20 anni a praticare da sola il bagno di bosco e la connessione con gli alberi, e dopo quasi un decennio a guidare esperienze di questo tipo con centinaia di adulti in contesti di ogni tipo (formazione aziendale, esperienze con la disabilità, percorsi di crescita personale per adulti), sento il forte desiderio di trasmettere l’insieme di conoscenze e pratiche che ho nel tempo messo a punto per custodire e coltivare il mio benessere personale, e facilitare la crescita personale e il benessere delle persone con cui ho lavorato in questi anni.

Inoltre, osservo costantemente che più le persone tornano in contatto con la natura, e a sentirsi parte vivente della rete della vita, più sviluppano amore per la natura, e desiderio di prendersene cura, proteggerla, e adottare uno stile di vita che aiuti il nostro meraviglioso pianeta a stare bene.

Per me, non c’è benessere delle persone senza benessere del pianeta, e diffondere queste pratiche di connessione profonda con la natura diventa per me un modo per aiutare le persone a sviluppare quel sentimento ecologico che porta ad uno stile di vita basato su affetto e rispetto per il mondo naturale.
